I was wondering if anyone here has seen this anime and if they'd like to discuss the story (spoilers, obviously)
I haven't gotten around to the second season yet, but people tell me it's good.

I watched it. I'm trying to hold back from reading the manga.... Anyways, I loved the second half. Things got really tense and exciting. Looking back now, I wish they would have toned down the conspiracies a bit. You might see what I mean.

This is funny, I was having a discussion about this the other day with a bloke in Funnyjunk. Honestly, I like the concept of Attack on Titan. Giant invulnerable monsters that eat people but don't really need to? That feels like a horror story with a moral somewhere- very nice
But then Eren. While I found the story alright, this little guy wasn't. I thought he was just not enough for the story. He can be described with one word: anger.
But! I really like seeing the other characters evolve. Jean became brave and caring, Armin also became brave and started using strategy to defeat an imposing enemy; the list goes on.
This post got real long real fast....

What conspiracies? I thought the humans were working together? And yeah I though so too, but it seems the japanese really like bland main characters or something... Personally I liked Mikasa and potato girl

Yeah I have no idea either. I stopped after the female Titan was caught, the anime felt too battle oriented and the story was being forsaken.
Honestly, I think we all love Mikasa. She has a decent backstory and some mad skills, but her real allure is that, well, she's the "love" interest. You can bet the blokes in rule 34 are going ballistic with her

Mikasa is a strong, independent woman who don't need no Eren. Seriously though, I always resented the fact that the writers just shipped them like that without it making much sense. I understand he saved her from a bunch of bandits, but it still doesn't quite fit.
And if we're talking aesthetics, Mikasa is hawt

I was reading a manga where the MC's forgotten sister was in a band...called Incest...It had the most disturbing out of context lines ever, like "I'm not feeling good. I guess I'll listen to some Incest" and stuff like that.

I really enjoy this anime, basically the only one I really like. However, does anyone else realize how fookin' terrible Eren is? Not only is he only alive because of his titan power, but he's just an awful character. His backstory is the typical "vengeance for my loved one" story, he's a dumbass who can't fight for shit against anyone with an IQ over 50 on his own, and is an overall whiny piece of shit. He's genuinely the only character I hate on this show.
On the other hand, let's talk about the characters I like. Armin has gone from a wimpy kid into a semi-psycho killer, some crazy development there. Jean went from just Eren's rival to the only one who challenges him. Without him, the entire group would just blindly follow Eren, and would probably be dead. Hanji is just.... GAH I fookin' love her character. Erwin and Pixis are total badasses, but don't get to show it nearly enough.

I felt that the show had a lot of potential and just deflated. In Japan there are classes of manga- battle manga, gag manga, niche manga, etc. This started out like a wonderful little niche manga that was story driven- titans kill off humanity until they hole themselves up. They could have made the humans somehow use their minds and strategy (Armin, Jean) to beat the titans. What happened?
Eren became a Titan and now it's as if the weakest kid in the playground suddenly grew an ICBM instead of a hand.
Sigh... It had potential.
