I swear I just walked in a place and I could have told you all about it, and I've never been there before. What the heck?

Look at us getting all Psychological... According to Steins;Gate, Deja Vu happens when we switch worldlines, which means there's now a new future!
As for an actual explanation, I really have no idea.

Some religions, mainly Buddhism, say that it's your spirit remembering something a past life experienced. My past lives must have been pretty similar to me, or else why would they be at an ophthalmologist?

Oh yeah, I remember that theory. I'm not sure it holds up very well, though.

That would be crazy if our spirits were immortal, and every time you die you simply switch bodies

I confirm this. In Buddhism, life on earth is ripe with suffering, and you reincarnate endlessly in an eternal cycle of mortal life. The only way to escape this karmic wheel is to attain spiritual freedom and achieve Nirvana- absolute enlightenment.

If we look to the Holy Prophecy of the Matrix, we see that Deja Vu is just simply something changing in the Matrix. But, since we are all still obviously trapped in the Matrix, we can never know what changed until we ascend and gain "Awareness".

But, since we are all still obviously trapped in the Matrix, we can never know what changed until we ascend and gain "Awareness". I have a feeling there are all sorts of religious connotations in the Matrix, from the Matrix's similarity to the Buddhist karmic wheel (and its release being Awareness- Nirvana) to Neo being a Christ figure and actually dying like Jesus, in a cross form.

Deja-vu is probably due to run down as our eyes see the thing and send it to our brain twice

Wouldn't it be cool if someone made a comic about déjà Vu that was not bad?

Like, what if the MC was getting premonitions about past events because he was part of a time loop? He would experience something and it would lead to something bad, so he'd change it and then resume the timeline.
Wait, what if he's heroic and stuff, but every time he resumes the timeline he forgets his actions and becomes a lazy slouch?

So, wait. He sees something happen before it happens, then prevents it?
