Hey, everyone. I'm urbanknight4 and I'm making a group called the Aspiring Developers Group. I want to make games and other projects (stuff like apps and maybe even videos) with people in order to learn more about development, get contacts, and just have fun. Small groups are good, so I can only handle a few members at once for a project. If you're interested, post here and tell me about yourself! Just post what you're good at, what you'd like to do, and any other way we can contact you, like so:
I have a technical degree in 3D animation and I'm going to college for a major in Character Animation. I can use Cinema 4D and (some) Photoshop in order to make models. However, 3D games are complex and take very long to make. I have made some pixel art and I'm aslo learning 2D art, so that's getting covered.
My Skype is urbanknight4444, and I'm usually on to take your message.

Hi, I'm Leif, 22 years old and from Norway. I saw your post on Reddit(Zaik0) as well, and I want to give this a try. Been programming for a few years, currently on my second year of my bachelor degree in games programming. In context of game development I got skills in C, C#, Java and Unity3D. I've also used to Git, Jira and agile methods like scrum. Going to start on C++ and Game AI next year, which I look forward too. Up until now I've made some games like: Minesweeper, Angry Birds, Pacman, Space Invaders, 2D platformer etc.. Right now I'm working on a small moba game, just for the learning experience. I think it would be cool to make games with others to get better, share knowledge and just get to know new people.
I don't have any preferences on the type of game I want to make. I like that the game is going to bee free and open source.
I'm usually reachable on Skype most of the day under the name freekill_92.

Glad to hear from you guys! It sounds like you're solid programmers, so here is the plan: this group should be no more than 5 people, and I'd like an art assistant. That means we'll have 3 programmers shouldering an entire game.
Before you answer that it can be done, here is the idea: a game that mixes both Breakout and Galaga. I'm thinking of making a new blend, something fresh and original. The game would play just like breakout, except instead of blocks you'll have moving enemies like aliens and ships and stuff. The screen will scroll downwards to give the sense of progress, and after some time a themed boss will appear. The objective of the game will be to get to the end of the level- presumably to a safe space station or the like.
I want to have various things going on in this game, and I'm going to need (at least, I think) heavy coding. Like I said, I'm not sure if it'll be tough, but I think it can be done if you guys tell me what you need.
How does it sound?

That sounds kind of like Asteroids? I'm up for anything though, but I'm not sure if I understand how the element of Breakout comes into play.

I'll draw out some concept art of how I want it to look, and I'll explain alongside the drawings. I'll have them done soon, but in the meantime, do you know who can help me with art? I'm looking for background and font, but any kind of help is good too.

Out of curiosity, what made you choose LIBGDX + Java? I think its a great choice, but was just wondering if you're already familiar with some aspect of the tools. I know there's an easy way to create tile maps using Tile. We could use that to create scenes along with collidable objects. I haven't done this yet - but I know LIBGDX supports .tmx maps.

Hey, I'm a developer as well: web and Android. I've got a few applications built, but I haven't gotten too far into game making. I have used Game Maker and Stencyl in the past, but I never got the hang of good game design. I've scored my games too, although they were simple tracks.
As others have said, I'm a college student (electrical & computer engineering), and I've got my last final on Wednesday.

I decided to use libdgxvsgbjn whatever because my partner for the breakout clone used it. I suppose he knows about that so it was sensible to keep it, and since I'm probably going to invite him back, it'll be good to have a standard.

Here is a rudimentary concept of the game. I hope I communicated the game well enough in the game design document. If anything, just shoot me a question on Skype and we can get it sorted out. As for the picture below, I apologize for the crappy resolution, I was using my iPod camera and its just really bad. The image in itself shouldn't be too hard to figure out- on the right side there is the game screen where the actual game will be played, complete with the ball, paddle, and enemies. On the left side is the user interface with stuff like the combo counter (A), the score counters (B), the life screen (C), and a few unusable switches (D) that add flavor to the UI, making it look like a control panel. In case there is confusion as to what the combo counter is, please refer to the game design document. I'm pretty sure I explain it well enough in there. Anyways, that is all for the concept! I hope you guys understand it and that you'll be geared to make this as much as I am. Before we start, though, we'll need to organize ourselves and set at least some general deadlines and distribute tasks so that the work isn't shouldered by one person and people remain interested. My real name's Ben and I code, do art, write music, and write comics. I decided to come here because making games alone is not as fun as it is making them with friends! I mainly do code, so if I was to ask for a position here, it'd be as a coder! (Second choice would be art if it's open) My current project!

I think we should take a break while we all wrap up our holiday celebrations and whatnot. I'm working on the graphics with a new computer, but since I have family over I have little time to spare. After they're gone I'll be able to discuss the game with you guys, and we'll be on our way to finishing this project
