So there are some new books I'd like to talk to you guys about.
George R. R. Martin's The Winds of Winter is poised to be one of the most looked-after books by all humanity, whenever that guy actually gets around to writing it. Heck, I'd do anything to get my hands on a copy. I love the series (as usual, the books are better than the tv show, but not by a huge amount) and I feel that of all the books I've read, A Song of Ice and Fire is the series that has the best fleshed out characters.
Rick Riordan's "Olympus" series (or whatever the series is called nowadays) has a new book coming out in October- The Blood of Olympus. I have mixed feelings about this series, partly because I've never read it... But anyways, I feel like perhaps he's extending it too much, this whole "modern mythology" concept. Perhaps I'm wrong, since I've never read it to see if it's actually good. Anybody here read them so they can enlighten us?
And the final one isn't exactly new. It's Eoin Colfer's "Artemis Fowl" series. You did not have a childhood (at least, a book-related one) if you did not read these books. The story of a kid genius, his superhuman butler (not really superhuman, but damn close), and a fairy cop sounds really dumb but is actually really good, and one of the best books I read in middle school. I haven't kept up to date after the demon book (I think it was number 5?) but I'm wondering if there are any more books in the Artemis series.
Feel free to discuss anything about books here, guys, whether it be any of the three I mentioned, any you want to share, or anything related to the poll. Have fun!

I just checked out Artemis Fowl: the Time Paradox, and the following volume, the Atlantis... something. I forgot the name..
Anyways, I requested they be mailed to me, but they haven't gotten here yet. I'm looking to see if the library has Judas Unchained, the sequel to the book Pandora's Star. Remember that book with the rejuvenation?

I like sci-fi most. Also, I've never read "Artemis Fowl"... I guess I have no soul anymore... But I remember seeing some girls reading it in elementary school in Gr. 7. I guess I labeled it as "girl book" from then on. Anyways, anyone read any of H. G. Wells' books? They're from late 19th century and early 20th century and they're sci-fi. They're really quite good, even for today's standards.

I enjoyed them a lot. I liked the Invisible Man and War of the Worlds, they were very insightful books. The ending of the Invisible Man was crushing for me because I had sympathized with the main character, but in the end I realized it was necessary. I want to read the Island of Doctor Moreau. I know it's about a bunch of animal and genetic experimentation, and since this is the 20th century I'm really curious to see how he handled that without knowing about DNA and genetic splicing and stuff.

I like reading Michael Crichton. Jurassic Park is a lot better in the book form, and Airframe surprised me because I thought it'd be boring- not so. I definitely think he was a great author and he did a bunch of great projects, not just books.

Both of those were excellent stories. I believe the Shawshank Redemption is the top movie in the official movie taking website, whatever that is. The iMBD or sonething. The Long Walk was great as well. I accidentally spoiled the ending for myself, but it didnt stop me from wishing it wouldn't happen while reading it. King made it very dramatic and the pain of all the contestants was very visible.

It's the IMDb, the Internet Movie Database. Apparently its a really big and important site, kind of like the wikipedia of movies.
I watched that movie and I got to say it was really good. I've also read Running Man. I think the book was obviously better than the movie... I mean, who the heck hired Schwarzenegger to play the MC? Its the complete opposite of what King pictured, and he said so himself.

Once a movie has Arnold in it, it's almost guaranteed to suck. Of course, there are some exceptions like usual, but the overall failure rate is abysmal. The fact that it was a Stephen King story just made me even madder.
