How are you going to distribute this game? Will it be a free mod, freeware, or a paid game? It will be free. I plan on putting it on greenlight. Only thing that people would pay for is different skins. not expensive over priced stuff cheap stuff since it is a reskin. Any money made will be split accordingly. You get all of the characters (except for exclusive which require certain things) so its not like you cant enjoy the game unless you buy the skins, no. We want to make it fun and enjoyable to everyone and a little customizeable for those who fall in love with a character, etc;

I like that idea. However, if you're actually going to greenlight this, copyright infringement will prevent from ever being in the market. I suggest keep on doing what you're doing so you'll have a cool fighting game just for yourselves, and then release a public version with your own original characters and arenas so you don't get sued to oblivion by half of Shonen Jump

Basically I gain no monetary success from this except for skins which render characters different from there original state... Not entirely sure how copyright and trademarks work in this industry

Doesn't matter if its free. If you don't have permission from the copyright owner, you're infringing. Most people won't sue you at once, they'll send you a cease and desist letter first, but in this world it's best to be prepared for the worst as people can just take you to court without warning. Steam won't let your game in their market anyways. They have strict plagiarism rules and this kind of thing is definitely not allowed. You should do as the doctor says, make an anime character version for you guys to privately use (private use doesn't infringe) but submit a game to steam that has original characters and terrains.

Daww man that sucks... we were hoping to use the anime characters since it has such a large audience and people would honestly enjoy it... is there any way we could possibly avoid the copyright? :/ I ain't no lawyer... just a coder wanting to make a game that appeals to me D:

Use it as experience, and make something completely original in the future.

I'll probably wait fr a while then once theres enough good quality out of it I might email them to see if its ok to continue with the project. If not I'll probably still continue it since I love anime and I'd rather not give up on a project so easy. For example one anime game that blew up was Attack on Titan Tribute. Yet its still up. Chances are he got permission or they dont care enough.

Yeah, I can think of plenty of projects that were never told to be taken down, such as Super Smash Flash 1/2 and the countless Pokemon fangames. As long as they aren't being stingy, you'll probably be okay. Definitely try to get permission, though. Last thing you want is being told to stop in the middle of your project.

Yeah I just wish it could be put on steam *cries intensely* it would make updating so much easier. and I hate having client clutter. :/

I'm just giving you some advice- you don't have to take it. Original characters are a better way to market your game. It doesn't involve the risk of having Shueisha pull the plug on you, and people will value your original efforts more.
Like I said, it's up to you. I hope that whatever you choose to do, you do it well, man. I'm looking forward to seeing that fluid combat system I told you about- if you pull it off, you'll have made something truly unique.

I'm interested in your project, how far have you gotten at this point? I might have been willing to help, but I simply cannot stand Unity. I don't like the engine in general, the IDE is terrible, it's overly complicated, and it doesn't even have a Linux version of the development environment, OR a Linux web player, despite a HUGE amount of developers being Linux users (as well as a good portion of normal users), and it's the most requested item by THREE TIMES OVER, and they still haven't added it. feedback.unity3d.com/forums/unity/suggestions?utf8=%E2%9C%93&status=0&category=&view=most_votedfeedback.unity3d.com/suggestions/platforms-unity-editor-for-linuPersonally, I just write my own component style engine when I do 2D games, and just use LWJGL, LWJGL-Utils and Slick-Utils. It's not really that hard. When I do 3D, I use JMonkeyEngine, as that must be my favourite by far. Although, I may be interested in helping either way, depending upon how far you are into it, your requirements, and seeing your code itself. I have gotten Unity to work via Wine. I, as a developer, am an experienced Java developer. I personally prefer Lisp, especially the Racket dialect, but I'm not good enough with it to be able to use it for practical applications, and I will learn it eventually. I learned C# before Java, and as they are similar, I can write pretty well in C# as well. I'm not going to go too deep into that though, unless I decide I wish to join one of this group's projects, and in such a situation I would request a form or something that I could fill out. I'm not very good at self-description unless I have some starting points like that. Anyhow, could you please put out some videos/images on your project, and possibly link me to your code repository? Thanks, - Zeus

Yah, I think this thread is dead. It would have been cool to see how he would have made the game, but whatever. I think admin is making a game now? It's been a while since I came here so I wouldn't know for sure
